Open Water Training

This course is designed to give the individual the basic Open Water Certification needed to perform any SCUBA Diving activities. The program is set up with three parts. The Academic portion can be completed at home by reading sections in the course manual and completing the study guides. The Pool portion will be held at the Toyota Aquatic Center located at the Teays Valley YMCA. During these sessions, in-water training will develop skills and comfort that will be used once the students are certified. The required Open Water certification dives are the last piece of the puzzle. Four open water dives are required for the certification. These dives are to be completed within a year of the completion of the Academic and Pool portions. Options are available, at different costs, on the location and times of these dives. Locations range from local lakes in the summer months, out-of-country vacations, to the fresh water springs of Florida. This allows the student total flexibility when it comes to completing their certification.

The Open Water SCUBA Training Program includes all basic equipment needed to complete certification. The course fees cover 5 to 6 weeks, one night a week of Academic and Pool sessions. These sessions require a manual, folder, and of course an instructor. The costs of these requirements are included in the cost of the course. Also included is the Deluxe Explorer System. This system is the least amount of equipment a diver needs. This system includes a professional diving mask, semi-dry snorkel, hard-sole neoprene boots, open-heel diving fins, full-body wet suit, and mesh duffel bag. Open Water Dives are not included in the course. This is due to the difference in prices for the different options available.

To address the scheduling problem, we understand that most of your schedules are hectic; therefore, we will offer private classes (Thomas employees ONLY or when a family member is taking the course with the employee) to meet their needs. Regular classes will be available for family members who are taking the course without the employee. Classes can start immediately, there is no regular class schedule.
